The Secretary General of the UN, Ban Ki-moon offered condolences to Turkey over the incident this morning in which a rocket from Syria made an impact on its territory causing five deaths in the border town of Akcakale.
The spokesman for the Secretary General, Martin Nesirki confirmed that the Foreign Minister of Turkey, Ahmet Davutoglu, Ban phoned to express the deep concern of his government.
“The Secretary-General deplored the tragic loss of lives and urged the Turkish foreign minister to keep open all channels of communication with the Syrian authorities to lessen any tension that may arise as a result of the incident,” the spokesman said.
Nesirki added that the Turkish authorities also contacted the Joint Special Representative of the UN and the Arab League on Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, to inform them of the fact.
